7 Killed in Fresh Tana River Violence

 At least 7 people are reported to have died in fresh attacks in the volatile Tana River delta.

The attacks are said to have occurred at Nduru division near Ijara.

"Fresh Attacks in Tana Delta at Nduru Village. Disaster response team from Garsen hub deployed." read a tweet from the Kenya Red Cross.

Another 9 people are reported to have been injured in the latest skirmish, which is thought to be the latest spat between the rival Pokomo and Orma communties which have been engaged in a vicious cycle of revenge attacks over the past 5 months.

100 people were killed in such violence in August last year between the two rival communities.

The latest skirmish also comes in the wake of a similar attack on December 21 last year, when 45 people were hacked to death, prompting a visit to the region by newly appointed Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo and Internal Security Minister Katoo ole Metito.
